Contest Overview

If you love design, live in a small home and have kids – this is your contest!

We're looking for cool kids' rooms from small family homes (1000 square feet and under) from around the world. We're hoping to see rooms that have been set up for kids of all ages, so we'll be organizing the U.S. entries by the age of the child(ren).  Single rooms and shared rooms are welcome.

Contest Divisions

Baby  - Age 0-3
Kid – Age 3-6
Big Kid – Age 6 and over

If you are entering a shared room, the room will be placed in the division based on the age of the oldest child who uses the room.

International – No age divisions, includes all non-U.S. entries.

SUBMISSIONS

Submissions for the Ohdeedoh Smaller Cooler Kids' Room Contest will be accepted beginning 5/01. The deadline for entering the contest is 5/13.

ELIGIBILITY

  • The child(ren)'s room (single or shared) must be in a home which is 1000 square feet or under which is lived in by the contest applicant—the home can be owned, rented or sublet.
  • The room can be designed by a professional, weekend hobbyist or design enthusiast.
  • All readers age 18 and up are invited to enter the contest and share their home. Due to legal limitations and shipping costs, only U.S. residents are eligible to win the prizes.
  • Employees of Green Depot and Apartment Therapy may not enter.
  • Entries may NOT include links to other webpages or Apartment Therapy pages. Reader comments that include links will be deleted.
  • Once submitted, no contest entry may be changed, altered or enhanced.
  • One entry per household.
  • Winner is solely responsible for any and all local, state, and federal taxes incurred upon claiming a prize. Green Depot will file a 1099 tax form for prizes valued at or above $600.
  • International readers are invited to submit entries for exhibition on the site, but they are not eligible to win prizes. Unfortunately, Green Depot prizes may only be awarded to US residents.

Contest Schedule

  • 5/1 — Submission Forms open.
  • 5/5-5/26 — Selected entries will be posted. Posted entries will include a "Thumbs Up" widget to record positive reader feedback. The "Thumbs Up" widget will remain active for 48 hours.
  • 5/13 — submission form will close and no entries will be accepted after 23:59:59PST
  • 5/28 — "Thumbs Up" support will be tallied and the top 3 entries from each age division (those with the most "Thumbs Up") will be included in the semi-final survey vote to determine the 3 prize winners. The top 3 international entries (as determined by “Thumbs Up”) will move on to a separate semi-final vote to determine the 1 certificate of recognition winner.
  • 5/28 — Voting begins in the semi-finals. Readers will have 24 hours to vote in the survey for their single favorite room out of the top 9 U.S. entries. The top 3 international entries will have a separate 24-hour vote survey.
  • 5/29 — Voting will cease on the 24-hour semi-final survey and the top three ranked entries from the semi-final  survey vote (regardless of original age category) will be announced as our prize winners. The single highest ranked international entry based on the international semi-final survey will also be announced as our certificate of recognition winner.

Contest Rules

  • We're collecting entries from 5/01 through 5/13, 2009. Submission forms will close and no entries will be accepted after 23:59:59 PST. No late submissions will be accepted.
  • The best entries will be posted from 5/5 through 5/26 for reader review and response. Readers will have 48 hours from the time an entry is posted to respond with a "Thumbs Up" of support for their favorite entries. Each reader may vote once per entry.
  • We will announce 3 semi-finalists in each age division based on reader's "Thumbs Up" support on 5/28. At the same time, we will also announce 3 semi-finalists in the international divisions based on reader's “Thumbs Up” support.
  • The semi-finals will be a 24-hour survey vote where readers will vote for their single favorite room out of the 9 semi-finalists. A separate 24-hour International survey vote will allow readers to choose their single favorite room out of the 3 international semifinalists.
  • The top three ranked entries from the semi-final survey vote (regardless of original age category) will be announced as our prize winners on 5/29.  The top single ranked international entry will be announced as our certificate of recognition winner on 5/29.

What to Submit?

  • Send us five great photos of your child(ren)'s room.
  • Make sure you complete all the required fields on the contest entry form.

Prizes

  • Green Depot will grant gift cards with a total retail value of $1500.
  • The first place US winner will receive a $750 gift card from Green Depot. The second place US winner will receive a $500 gift card from Green Depot. The third place US winner will receive a $250 gift card from Green Depot.
  • International readers are invited to submit entries for exhibition on the site, but they are not eligible to win prizes. Unfortunately, Green Depot prizes may only be awarded to US residents. The winner of the International division will be awarded a certificate of recognition from Apartment Therapy/Ohdeedoh.

Selected entries are posted on weekdays starting 5/5 and ending on 5/26.

I received confirmation that you received my entry, why wasn't my entry posted?
Our system does not automatically post entries as they are submitted. Our team selects the best entries to post. All submissions may not be posted due to space limitations, and it is up to Ohdeedoh to post the strongest submissions in each division. If your entry is selected, it may not be posted until 5/26.

I made a mistake in my submission – how do I change my contest entry?
Please re-submit your entry.

How are winners chosen?
Winners are chosen by the readers votes in the semi-final survey.

How are the semi-finalists chosen?
By the readers' feedback. The number of “Thumbs Up” votes determines a semi-finalist.

How do you handle voting fraud?
Evidence of excessive multiple votes from a single IP address will be deleted.

My home was previously featured on Apartment Therapy/Ohdeedoh – am I still eligible to enter?
Yes, readers previously shared their homes with the community are eligible.

My home was photographed for the new Apartment Therapy Book – am I still eligible to enter?
No. Our publisher has requested that the homes selected for the new book remain unpublished until the book is complete
